They'll appear in Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach for eight weeks starting Monday.</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">'Come to the city where you can say whatever you want,' reads one of the ads, surrounded by the word 'gay ' in various font sizes and colors. Another one simply proclaims, 'When other states show their true colors, we show ours,' on a plain black background.</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">They're in response to Florida's 'Parental Rights in Education' law signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis last week. We want you right here in New York City.'" </p><p class="mol-para-with-font">Adams called the law 'political showmanship' that is 'demonizing' LGBTQ people.</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">Critics say the Florida law's open-ended language, which also prevents 'classroom discussion' of LGBTQ issues, would prevent children from confiding in teachers if they feel unsafe because of their identity.</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">Republicans say it's necessary to keep discussion of sensitive matters relegated to the home. </p><p class="mol-para-with-font">One of the New York City-sponsored billboards to be placed in Florida reads: 'Loud. Proud. DeSantis said that Disney's woke ideology is a significant threat to the state and he threatened to strip the company's privileges, including its right to build anything it wants in its theme park. </p><p class="mol-para-with-font">The governor's comments come as some legislators <span style="font-size: 16px;">are considering punishing Walt Disney World for taking a public stand against the law by repealing a 55-year law that allows the company to govern itself.</span> </p><p class="mol-para-with-font"><span style="font-size: 16px;">'They have gotten incredible treatment from the Florida legislature and are treated on a pedestal, this one corporation is treated differently than anybody else,' Gov. DeSantis said. 'That is not something I've ever supported. In the legislature you see a move to reevaluate the special privileges.' </span></p><p class="mol-para-with-font">Florida House Rep. Spencer Roach tweeted on Wednesday that lawmakers held two meetings this week to discuss revoking the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act, which he said 'allows Disney to act as its own government.'</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">Spencer, a Republican, added: 'If Disney wants to embrace woke ideology, it seems fitting that they should be regulated by Orange County.'  </p><p class="mol-para-with-font">Also on Monday, a concerned mother spoke out against Mayor Adams' decision to keep a mask mandate for children as young as 2.</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">'Three weeks ago, you told parents to trust you that you would unmask our toddlers,' Daniela Jampel shouted from the back during a press question-and-answer session. </p><p class="mol-para-with-font">'You stood right here, and you said that the masks would come off April 4. Let her finish, 'cause you let her start. Go ahead and finish, ma'am, OK? But you gotta come to a conclusion. Turn on your phone so you can get my answer correctly, but come to a conclusion.'</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">The woman continued: 'You had your lawyers race to court on Friday night arguing that there would be irreparable harm if children under 5 are allowed to take off their masks today along with their older siblings in school,' the Jampel continued.</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">Adams said his plan was always to move in tandem with the number of cases.</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">'I made the announcement that we were looking to announce today, which is Monday, to take the masks off children 2 and 4 years old. But I also stated, if we see an uptick, we will come back and make the announcement of what we're going to do.</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">'We're going to pivot and shift as COVID is pivoting and shifting. There is a new variant. The numbers are increasing. We're going to move at the right pace, and that's the role I must do.</p><p class="mol-para-with-font">'That's what I stated.
